You are home with your baby and
you have spent a sleepless night or two. Maybe
you are dreading the next feeding, because your nipples are so sore.
Maybe you and the baby are struggling with how to get latched on
comfortably, now that your milk is in. Your baby seems to be fighting with your
breasts which have grown huge and hard. Maybe
the baby has not nursed well from the beginning. You
are trying to remember what the lactation consultant in the hospital told you to
do, but it is all a big blur. Your husband tries to help, but everyone is getting tired and tempers are
running short…it’s not working!!
If you are having trouble
nursing your baby, you need to get help.
I have helped
thousands of women with sore breasts and nipples, trouble latching, sleepy
babies who aren't gaining, twins, and
questions about returning to work and pumping.
I am a “latch-on” expert with more than 10 years of experience.
I can usually fix latch on and positioning problems quickly and this
helps to heal your nipples faster than any cream. If
it is a more complicated problem, I can assess the severity of the problem and help you with a treatment
plan designed specifically for your situation.
Sometimes problems come up after
a few weeks. Maybe your baby is
fussy, or not gaining weight, or your breasts feel too soft or are still
engorged and sore.
You get advice from everyone, but who is right?
I can help you to sort out all of the advice, and come up with a plan
that will work for you and your baby.
Here is how it works—
Lactation Consultant Home Visits are available by appointment.
Often times I can come with in 24 hours of when you contact me. Please page me to set
up a visit, or leave a message on my voice mail, if you are can wait a bit. I will usually call you
back within a few hours. Many
times, I can come out the same day. If
I can’t, I will give you an idea of what to do until I can come. I come to your home, with pumps and all of my supplies.
I bring a BabyWeigh Scale with
me and we weigh the baby before and after the feeding.
This helps me to determine a lot about what is going on, as it measures
how much breast milk your baby is getting and how fast.
First of all, if the baby will let us, we sit down and chat. I will ask you lots of questions, and listen to everything you say. If you are really frustrated, it can help a lot just to say that to someone who will not judge you. Then we weigh the baby and I watch you position the baby in your own chair (or bed) with your own pillows. If it is a problem with latching on, we try different holds and we practice several times. We figure out together what is going on and I leave you with a written plan that you can follow. There may be other supplies that I suggest, such as a nipple shield or a supplemental nursing system, which are an additional charge— my cost for the item. I may recommend that you rent a pump to stimulate your milk supply. I do try to keep additional costs down, if at all possible. After I leave, you put the plan into action and call me to update me with your progress. If we need to, we revise the plan. All of this (including phone calls) is included in the price of a home visit. The cost of all of this is $90. A follow up visit is $60. Please call me if the price that I charge would be difficult for you to pay. You can come to my home office for a $60 charge.
You know the value of breast milk for your baby--that is why you want to do this. And you will know the value of a home visit when I leave. I also want you to become more aware of how you are connecting with your baby and being the best mom that you know how to be. You can be a wonderful mom while you are struggling with how to get the breast milk into your baby. Call me and we can talk.
